Starší generace do konce svého života nezapomene na pocity, které prožívala 21. srpna 1968 a v následujících dnech po obsazení Československa vojsky Varšavské smlouvy.

Ruské tanky nejen v hlavním městě naší země rozmetaly jasnou oblohu a závan svobody období Pražského jara. Naše země potemněla a ve více než 80 městech a obcích se na nekonečných 23 let usadily posádky sovětské armády.

A dnes? Většina z nás nezapomene na chvíle, když před 4 lety – 24. února 2022 obletěla svět zpráva o bombardování Kyjeva, hlavního města suverénního státu – Ukrajiny.

Uběhly 4 roky útrap, ničení, devastace ukrajinského národa a ukrajinské země. Ani kulturní památky, kulturní instituce a naši kolegové muzejníci, či lidé z kulturních institucí nezůstali ušetřeni válečného běsnění. Mnozí z nich při obraně své vlasti položili život.

Čest jejich památce!

Přes všechnu bolest a ztráty se však Ukrajina nevzdává a my pokračujeme v podpoře našich muzejních kolegů a kolegyň, umělců a umělkyň na Ukrajině.

The older generation will never forget the feelings they experienced on 21 August 1968 and in the days that followed the occupation of Czechoslovakia by the armies of the Warsaw Pact.

Russian tanks, not only in the capital of our country, shattered the clear sky and extinguished the breath of freedom brought by the Prague Spring. Our country was plunged into darkness, and Soviet army garrisons settled in more than 80 towns and cities for endless 23 years.

And today? Most of us will never forget the moment when, four years ago—on 24 February 2022—the news of the bombing of Kyiv, the capital of a sovereign state, Ukraine, spread around the world.

Four years of suffering, destruction, and devastation of the Ukrainian nation and Ukrainian land have passed. Cultural monuments, cultural institutions, and our colleagues—museum professionals and workers in cultural institutions—have not been spared the brutality of war. Many of them gave their lives in the defence of their homeland.

Honor to their memory.

Despite all the pain and losses, Ukraine does not surrender, and we continue to support our museum colleagues, artists, and cultural professionals in Ukraine.
