The Military History Institute Prague is the museum, scientific-research and library facility of the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic. Collections include items regarding Czech and Czechoslovak military science and armed forces. The largest one consists of weapons and armament; there is also a great deal of uniforms, gear and equipment. What also belongs to the Institute is the Prague Aviation Museum in Kbely, the Military Technical Museum in Lešany, as well as a unique collection of art paintings by painters-legionnaires, who fought on fronts during World War 1 in Russia, France or Italy. Among truly outstanding works are those by František Kupka or Emil Filla.
