On 6 October, an international symposium “The Birth of the Modern City and the Lifestyle of the Long Century” will take place at Villa Tugendhat. ICOM Czechia is one of the co-organizers of the symposium.

The aim of this symposium is to present the context of the creation and significance of the Arnold Villa, one of the most important buildings of the Brno villa colony in Černá Pole, and to learn about the restoration of several selected residential buildings, now functioning as house museums.

Experts from partner institutions such as the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Oslo and the Prague City Museum have promised to participate in the programme.

The symposium will take place in a hybrid form – online available to all via YouTube: https://youtu.be/4a2AHpPxnkg

and physically in Villa Tugendhat. Due to the nature of the space, the capacity of the auditorium is limited to 35 people, who must book their participation well in advance. Registration will open on Friday 24 September. Admission to the symposium is free.

The accompanying programme for registered participants will include a guided tour of the Arnold Villa and Villa Tugendhat.
The opening of the conference will take place on 6 October at 9.30 a.m. with the participation of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to the Czech Republic H. E. Mr. Robert Kvile and representatives of the City of Brno and the Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic. We are looking forward to it!

The symposium is one of the outcomes of the bilateral cooperation between the Brno City Museum and the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Oslo (Nasjonalmuseet for kunst, arkitektur og design) and is supported by the Fund for Bilateral Relations under the EEA and Norway Grants 2014-2021.
